Situation Report #1 – Hurricane EARL impacts Belize as a Category 1 Hurricane

Message: Hurricane Earl impacts Belize as a Category 1 Hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph. Earl moved westward at a speed near 14 mph and produced rainfall of 8-12 inches over Belize.

The following provides a summary on Hurricane Earl as presented in the latest Weather Briefing provided by the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH):

Situation Report #2 - NEMO Belize completes first phase of disaster assessments after Hurricane EARL

EVENT:
On Wednesday, August 3rd 2016, Hurricane Earl attained Category 1 status with winds of 75 mph. The initial projected path of Earl was due north of Belize City. Hurricane Earl made landfall early Thursday morning (August 4th) near Belize City as a Category 1 Hurricane with estimated maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. The track changed just before landfall, which occurred south of Belize City placing the city within the radius of maximum winds. The system took about fifteen hours to cross the country. The Hurricane affected primarily Belize City, Belize Rural, Orange Walk, Cayo, and Stann Creek districts. The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) declared the “ALL CLEAR” for Belize on Thursday, 4th August at 9:00 a.m. There were no reports of fatalities and no reports of injured and missing persons. In Belize City, the Police and Fire Departments supported by the Belize Defence Force conducted 274 rescues prior to the declaration of the All Clear.

Tropical Storm Matthew - Situation Report #1 as of 11:00 am on September 29th, 2016

Message: Tropical Storm Matthew impacted CDEMA Participating States - Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The ‘All Clear’ was issued for impacted States and Initial Damage Assessments and Needs Analysis (DANA) teams were deployed. No immediate needs have been identified by the impacted States at the time of this report. Given the projected path of TS Mathew there are now concerns for possible threats to Jamaica, Haiti, Turks and Caicos Islands and Bahamas.

Hurricane Matthew - Situation Report #2 as of 11:00 am on September 30th, 2016

Message: Hurricane Matthew continues to intensify while moving west-southwestward over the Caribbean Sea. Now a Category 3 hurricane, Matthew is expected to remain over the central Caribbean Sea through early Sunday. Interests in Jamaica should continue to monitor the progress of Matthew.
