COURSE OVERVIEW
This short course will strengthen participants’ general knowledge about the protection of children during crises, and allow reflection on the impact of emergencies and disasters on children’s well-being and survival. The session also identifies interventions to mitigate and respond to Child Protection risks.
COURSE OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Improve general knowledge about Child Protection in Emergencies, including response principles and framework.
2. Describe the impact of emergencies on children.
3. Recognize the importance of Child Protection integration in other humanitarian sectors, with special focus in Education in Emergencies.
PRIMARY AUDIENCE
Members of national emergency/disaster management systems in CDEMA Participating States, including agencies responsible for Child Protection.
Community Based Organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations.
PREREQUISITES
No prior knowledge, training or experience required.
TYPE OF CERTIFICATE/CEU
Certificate of Completion (if attending all sessions and completing all assessments).
Certificate of Participation (if attendance and assessment requirements are partially met).
COURSE LENGTH
Approximately five (5) hours of contact time, comprising:
• Two (2) interactive sessions on Zoom, each 2 – 2.5 hours long.
• Pre-reading and other supplemental materials requiring 30 minutes – 1 hour of reading.
The trainer may also give participants an optional exercise to complete between sessions.

• Short presentations on Child Protection in Emergencies topics
• Participative exercises during online sessions
• Individual exercise to be completed between online sessions
