SITUATION OVERVIEW:
Hurricane Melissa formed on October 25, 2025, in the Caribbean Sea. The system initially affected Haiti as a tropical storm as early as October 23, resulting in flooding, landslides and several deaths. The system rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm on October 27, affecting Jamaica on October 28 resulting in catastrophic flooding, landslides and infrastructural damage in the central and western parishes. At 5:00 PM AST, the centre of Hurricane Melissa was located near latitude 22.9 N, longitude 74.8 W. Melissa is moving toward the northeast near 16 mph (26 km/h). An accelerating northeastward motion is expected during the next few days.
