COURSE OVERVIEW
These learning sessions will introduce participants to the topic of Social Protection in Emergencies and the potential role that social protection programmes, and their underlying systems, can play in response to shocks faced in the Caribbean. Participants will also be exposed to some analytical tools that can be applied to understand the potential tradeoffs in different design choices for social protection systems.
COURSE OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, learners/you will be able to:
1. Define social protection;
2. Describe ways social protection programs/systems can be leveraged in response to a shock;
3. Assess the potential role social protection programmes and their underlying systems can play in response to shocks faced in the Caribbean;
4. Identify some analytical tools to understand potential tradeoffs in different design choices;
5. Apply hands-on information and some key tips on Shock Responsive Social Protection;

• National emergency/disaster response systems in CDEMA Participating States
• Agencies responsible for social protection programmes,
• Community Based Organisations
• Non-Governmental Organisations.
PREREQUISITES
No prior knowledge, training or experience required.

Certificate of Completion (if attending all sessions and completing all assessments).
Certificate of Participation (if attendance and assessment requirements are partially met).
COURSE LENGTH
Approximately five (5) hours of contact time, comprising:
• Two (2) interactive online sessions, each 2 – 2.5 hours long.
• Pre-reading and other supplemental materials requiring 30 minutes – 1 hour of reading.
The trainer may also give participants an optional exercise to complete between sessions.
