A new course has been added to the Regional Training Centre (RTC) Moodle Learning Management System (LMS).
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the Caribbean Alliance of National Psychological Associations (CANPA), has developed a self-paced, online short course which provides an introduction to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the Caribbean Alliance of National Psychological Associations (CANPA), has developed a self-paced, online short course which provides an introduction to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in emergency response within the Caribbean context. It equips participants with foundational knowledge of global frameworks, practical response principles, and region-specific approaches to supporting children, adolescents, and communities during and after emergencies.
The course covers seven (7) modules:
- Module 1: Welcome and Purpose
- Module 2: Why MHPSS in Emergencies?
- Module 3: Global and UN Frameworks
- Module 4: Principles of MHPSS for Responders
- Module 5: Caribbean Context and Cultural Strengths
- Module 6: Child Protection in Emergencies
- Module 7: Call to Action and Next Steps
The courses are available in English and can be completed in 30 - 40 minutes. Designed for multi-sectoral stakeholders engaged in emergency preparedness and response across the Caribbean, it targets a range of audiences, in particular:
- Government officials
- Teachers and school personnel
- Child protection professionals
- Social workers and health professionals
- NGO and community-based organisation staff
- Emergency responders and volunteers
- Shelter workers and frontline responders
