The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) is hosting a Data and Information Management Workshop from Tuesday 18th February to Wednesday 19th February 2020.
The workshop aims to strengthen information management and reporting during emergencies. It aims to ensure that stakeholders have access to timely, credible information to reduce response time and strengthen humanitarian relief support during an emergency.
Chief Executive Officer of the ODPM, Major General (Ret’d) Rodney Smart brought welcoming remarks and emphasised the importance of information management in supporting decision makers on the strategic level to make sound decisions during a crisis. CEO Smart also highlighted the importance of streamlining information processes to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s resilience to disasters.
Ms. Renee Babb, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist, CDEMA, in her remarks said, “Upon completion of this training, it is hoped that the ODPM's capacity is strengthened and that you will join the CDEMA roster teams to support IM and Data Management activities regionally."
The lead facilitators are Rogerio Silva, Deputy Head of Office, UN OCHA and Brenda Eriksen, Information Officer, UN OCHA.
Support for this workshop is made possible by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DIPECHO) funding, which is being implemented under the project, “Strengthen integrated and cohesive preparedness capacity at a regional, national and community level in the Caribbean”. The Project supports concrete actions for an effective early warning system, as well as aims to improve information management and operational capacity for an improved Caribbean Regional Response Mechanism.
Implementing partners include the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC).
