Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Prime Minister Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia was among the regional leaders who expressed concern and support to The Bahamas, devastated by category five hurricane Dorian which struck on Sunday 1 September. It left extensive damage across the islands of Abaco and is currently pounding Grand Bahama.

Prime Minister Chastanet, whose island was spared the wrath of Dorian when it made its passage through the Lesser Antilles early last week, wrote on his Facebook page “our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas and Florida.”

The CCC (CARICOM Competition Commission) is launching its inaugural CAR/COM Competition Commission (CCC) Secondary School Essay Competition, targeting secondary school students between the ages of 12 and 19 years. To be eligible, participants must be resident in a CARlCOM Member State. The categories and age as at the date of the deadline for essay submissions must be either:

• Category 1: 12-15 years
• Category 2: 16-19 years.

Information Officers from throughout the Public Service met at the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) for the past two days to undergo training in Crisis Communication.

The training was facilitated by Clive A. Murray, Communication and Education Specialist with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and Dr. Livingston A. White, Director of the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at The University of the West Indies Mona Campus in Jamaica.
