September 10, 2025- Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis – Disaster Management Officers in St. Kitts and Nevis were among several key national stakeholders who benefitted from a one-week Comprehensive Logistics Systems (CLS) training workshop conducted by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).
The activity was undertaken in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) and the United States Government from August 26–29, 2025 here.
As part of the week-long interactive programme, participants were trained on the use of the CLS platform, a state-of-the-art digital system developed by CDEMA and the World Food Programme (WFP) to enhance the visualization and management of regional stockpiles.
Using a combination of theoretical modules and practical exercises, participants were able to gain knowledge and skills necessary to operationalize the CLS in real-world emergency scenarios, ensuring that national logistics, inventory, and warehouse management systems are seamlessly integrated into regional response mechanisms.
The CLS was created by CDEMA in response to critical gaps identified in disaster logistics following recent hurricanes and other natural hazards across the Caribbean. Since its introduction in 2019, it has played a pivotal role in supporting regional response operations. Its continued rollout in Participating States ensures that national disaster offices are equipped with the tools to respond more efficiently to emergencies.
According to CDEMA’s Logistics Specialist, Cayle Francis-Thornhill, the training reflected the agency’s wider goal of strengthening logistics response capacity across the region.
“This initiative continues to increase the quantity, quality, and readiness of skilled personnel available to Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the wider Caribbean region in support of disaster management responses to hurricanes and other emergencies,” he said.
The CLS initiative is part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) and the strengthening of the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM).
