Caricom prepares for the recovery phase in Haiti

EMERGENCY response teams from the Caribbean Community (Caricom) attended to more than 3,000 people injured in Haiti's devastating earthquake, and have vowed to provide more assistance after March 5 when the recovery phase begins.

Antigua and Barbuda launches Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Public Awareness and Education Campaign

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 8, 2010 (CDEMA) - Antigua and Barbuda’s Public Awareness and Education Campaign under the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) executed Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System (TCHWS) Project, will be launched today, February 08, 2010 at the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.

MESSAGE: 7.0 HAITI EARTHQUAKE UPDATE #12 (As at 12:00 hrs, February 5, 2010)


1.0 SITUATION OVERVIEW:

Haiti continues to recover from the Earthquake of January 12, 2010.

The Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive indicated that there were more than 200,000 people dead, 300,000 injuries treated, 250,000 destroyed houses, and 30,000 disrupted businesses as of February 3.

Virgin Islands residents return from deployment to Haiti and Jamaica

Tortola, VI, February 3 , 2010 (DDM)- Two Virgin Islands’ residents are back in the Territory after being deployed for approximately 10 days to assist with relief efforts in the wake of the January 12 earthquake in Haiti.

Messrs Ron Mobley and Dwayne Straun returned to the Territory on Monday, following their deployment to Haiti and Jamaica respectively.

Haiti Earthquake Update #11

MESSAGE: 7.0 HAITI EARTHQUAKE UPDATE #11 (As at 16:00 hrs, January 31, 2010)

1.0 SITUATION OVERVIEW:

Emergency relief and response operations continue in Haiti following the earthquake on January 12 2010. There has been a mass exodus out of the capital Port au Prince with migration of people to the north and southwest of the Island totaling around 235,000.

The Government of Haiti remains challenged in managing and coordinating the relief efforts. Requests have been made to CARICOM to support the urgent needs for supplies related to the provision of shelter and other humanitarian aid.
