CDEMA Information Note # 2 - Hurricane Earl (Sunday, August 29, 2010)

Hurricane Earl Strengthens and Rapidly Heading Toward the Northernmost Leeward Islands.

The Situation:
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Montserrat and Virgin Islands. A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area within the next 12-24 hours.

Tropical Storm Earl Rapidly Heading Toward the Leeward Islands (As at 5.00p.m. August 28, 2010)


The Situation:
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla and Montserrat. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the British Virgin Islands. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area generally within 48 hours.

CDEMA Stimulating Dialogue with Partners to Advance Comprehensive Disaster Management

Bridgetown, Barbados, Tuesday August 17, 2010 – (CDEMA) – CDEMA has convened two meetings to engage key partners and deepen existing regional Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) implementation and development.

The Sixth Meeting of the Comprehensive Disaster Management Coordination and Harmonization Council (CDM CHC) and the 2010 Programming Consultation on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) will be held on August 19 & 20, 2010 at the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa, Rockley, Christ Church, Barbados.

Anegada chosen as pilot community under ACP EU funded project

Tortola, VI, August 11, 2010 (DDM) - The Anegada community has been selected as a pilot for community interventions under the Disaster Risks Management Sub-regional Programme being funded by the European Union and executed by CDEMA.

This project, referred to as the African Caribbean Pacific European Union (ACP EU) project, is geared towards enhancing the human safety level of populations and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural disasters.

CDEMA and Pacific counterparts share experiences and identify areas for integration and collaboration

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 21, 2010 (CDEMA) - CDEMA and its Pacific counterparts shared experiences and highlighted areas for programme integration and collaboration to strengthen disaster resilience of both regions when they met at the CDEMA Coordinating Unit in Barbados on Monday, July 19, 2010.
