Paramaribo, Suriname, January 31, 2014 (CDEMA, NCCR) – A nine (9) day search and rescue training is currently underway at the Sgt. 1 Martowidjojo Kazerne (‘Concordia’) Training Base of the National Army, Suriname. This venture is a collaboration between the Nationaal Coördinatie Centrum voor Rampenbeheersing (NCCR) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) with financial support from international partners (United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Bridgetown, Barbados, January 15, 2013 (CDEMA) - CDEMA’s Executive Director, Mr. Ronald Jackson is participating in a one week “Volcanic Risk Workshop” in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The ‘Forensic’ Workshop which began on Monday, January 13, seeks to examine experiences from the 1970’s volcanic eruption in St Vincent and the 1990’s eruption in Montserrat. The workshop will focus on how those lessons can improve monitoring capacity and promote DRM measures that reduce vulnerability to volcanic hazards. It also aims to explore the awareness and importance of volcanic risk from the perspective of decision-makers, government officials, emergency responders, monitoring agencies and the public of St. Vincent.
