Bridgetown, Barbados May 25, 2022– As the 2022 Hurricane Season approaches, the CDEMA Coordinating Unit (CU) hosted its fourth annual Exercise SYNERGY virtually on May 22, 2022, to build preparedness for the potential multi-island, multi-hazard impact threat to the region. Over 50 regional and international stakeholders attended SYNERGY, a flagship regional exercise to test the coordination within the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM).

Bridgetown, Barbados May 6, 2022– As part of the initiatives of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) headed by the Republic of Argentina, the International Seminar "Exchange of experiences and lessons learned on the strategies implemented by the countries within the framework of the COVID-19 Pandemic" was held in conjunction with CARICOM and the OECS, in Barbados. Over 100 attendees joined the seminar virtually, for the thorough examination of the Argentinian and the Caribbean experiences concerning diagnoses, responses, and prospects in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact and public responses in the areas of health, humanitarian assistance and tourism.

Bridgetown, Barbados March 22, 2022 - The Preparedness and Response Division (PRD) of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) recently hosted a series of virtual Tabletop National Level Exercises (NLEs) focused on enhancing capacity at the national level to manage disaster events. Emergency Personnel from the 20 CDEMA Participating States (PSs) benefitted from scenarios and discussions on shelter management, logistics, communications, health and GIS capacity.

Registration is Open for the Caribbean Urban Forum 2022- 15- 17 June in Barbados
Barbados will be hosting the 2022 Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF) Conference and it will be held from 15th-17th June, 2022 as a hybrid of physical and online meetings. CUF 2022 is a three-day Conference for land use practitioners, policy makers, academics and allied professionals interested in urban and land management issues within the Caribbean. The theme of this year’s event is Beyond COVID: Recovery-Renewable-Resilience, which calls on the Planning profession to recognise the significance of climate change adaptation and hazard vulnerability reduction measures for future sustainable development patterns.

DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF CIVIL PROTECTION, HAITI REPORTED:
- On Monday, 24 January, 2022 shortly after 8 AM, the Seismological Unit of the Bureau of Mines and Energy recorded a series of tremors ranging from magnitude 3.5 to 5.5 on the Richter scale.
- These tremors, whose epicenters are located in the Nippes Department, were felt in other departments of the country including the South, South-East, West, Artibonite and North.

Bridgetown, Barbados November 18, 2021– CDEMA has recommitted its mandate to integrate geospatial technologies into disaster risk management through a renewed MOU with MapAction. The humanitarian mapping charity has been a key partner to CDEMA’s digital transformation, and the MOU will allow for further Geographic Information System (GIS) support from 2021-2025.

The Government of Jamaica, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) - Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) are pleased to announce that the VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean (RP21) will take place virtually during the week of 1 to 4 of November 2021. This will be the first time a regional platform will be hosted by a Caribbean nation, being one of the world's most vulnerable regions to extreme weather events and seismic activity.
