The Situation
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Belize. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area generally within 48 hours.
At 3:00 pm Tropical Storm Karl was centered near latitude 18.3 N, Longitude 84.2 W. This position is about 274 miles east of Corozal Town. Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph moving 15mph and further strengthening is likely to occur.

Event
A broad area of low pressure associated with Tropical Storm Nicole has been producing showers over the western Caribbean from September 28, 2010. The entire island of Jamaica experienced rainfall with some sections of the island having up to 9 inches of rainfall over a 12 hour period.
At 5.00 p.m September 29, 2010, weather reports indicated that Nicole had dissipated but forecasted rainy conditions to continue across the island of Jamaica for at least another 48 hours.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Belize. This means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area within 48 hours. At 8.00am today, Friday, September 24, the center of Tropical Storm Matthew was estimated near latitude 14.3 north longitude 80.7 west. Matthew is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/hr). Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/hr) with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center.Tropical Storm Matthew is also producing dangerous waves along the normally sheltered west coast of most of the southern Lesser Antilles.
