MESSAGE: Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for Barbados, Dominica and Saint Lucia.
Message: Sandy approaching the Central Bahamas. Damage Assessment Teams out in Haiti and Jamaica Sandy
THE SITUATION:
At 11.00a.m the center of Sandy, a Category Two Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale, was located near latitude 22.4 degrees North and longitude 75.5 West or about 65 miles South SouthWest of Long Island and 85 miles South SouthEast of Great Exuma Island , Bahamas . Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outwards up to 30 miles and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles from the center.
Message: Chantal degenerates into tropical wave. Jamaica and the Bahamas should continue to monitor the progress of the remnants of Chantal.

Message: Sandy, strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane is affecting Jamaica. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica, central and northwestern Bahamas. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Haiti and a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the south-Eastern Bahamas (as of 5.00 p.m. October 24th, 2012).
Message: Tropical Storm Chantal continues its path across the Caribbean islands. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the CDEMA Participating States of Haiti, Turks and Caicos Islands and Bahamas
Message: Tropical Storm force winds continued to impact the Northern Commonwealth of the Bahamas on Saturday, October 27. Damage assessments and relief efforts ongoing in Jamaica and Haiti.
THE EVENT:
Hurricane Sandy, the 18th named storm of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season has affected three of the CDEMA Participating States, Haiti, Jamaica and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Message: Sandy is expected to become a hurricane before reaching Jamaica today. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Haiti. The central and northwestern Bahamas are under Tropical Storm Warning and a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the south-Eastern Bahamas (as of 8.00 a.m. at October 24th, 2012).
