Message: Search and Rescue continues and Damage Assessments commence in Dominica. Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Haiti, Southeastern and Central Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Northwestern Bahamas.

EVENT:

Dominica, a CDEMA Participating State, has been severely affected by heavy rains as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, 2015. Several persons have been reported dead or missing and there has been major damage to infrastructure and utilities in many communities.

Message: Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and St Kitts/Nevis. Danny is expected to pass near or over portions of the warning area by late tonight or early Monday.

THE SITUATION:

At 2.00 p.m, Sunday, August 23, 2015 the center of Tropical Storm Danny, was located near latitude 18.8 North and longitude 58.1 West or about 260 miles East Southeast of Antigua and 215 miles East of Gaudeloupe.

Message: Danny was upgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane at 11.00a.m this morning (August 20th 2015). CDEMA urges countries in the Northern Leeward Islands to continue monitoring and to review readiness plans.

THE SITUATION:

At 11.00 a.m. the center of Hurricane Danny , a Category 1 Hurricane, was located near latitude 12.5 North and longitude 44.8West or about 1090 miles East of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane Force winds extend outward from the centre up to 10 miles and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center. The system is moving toward the west northwest near 12 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Message: Dominica significantly impacted by Tropical Storm Erika. Regional response teams on standby for immediate deployment. Storm conditions are expected to continue over portions of the Leeward Islands, and reach the Virgin Islands later today.

Erika, the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, formed on 24 August, 2015. At 2.00pm Tropical Storm warnings remained in effect for the following countries: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and St. Kitts and Nevis. Tropical Storm watches have been issued for the Southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning for that country.

Message: Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and St Kitts/Nevis as Danny remains on track for the Leeward Islands.

THE SITUATION:

At 2.00 p.m. the center of Hurricane Danny, now a Category 1 Hurricane, was located near latitude 15.5 North and longitude 52.4 West or about 635 miles East of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane Force winds extend outward from the centre up to 15 miles and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center. Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn toward the west and an increase in forward speed are expected later today or tonight. On the forecast track, the center of Danny is expected to approach the Leeward Islands Sunday night or Monday morning.

Message: Tropical Storm Danny, the fourth named storm of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season, continues to move west.

THE SITUATION:

At 11.00 a.m. the center of Tropical Storm Danny was located near latitude 11.2 North and longitude 41.1 West or about 1385 miles East of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. The system is moving toward the west near 12 mph and a westward to west-northwestward motion at a slightly slower forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours.

Message: Erika expected to reach Leeward Islands tonight. Tropical Storm Warning in effect for Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Monsterrat and St. Kitts and Nevis.

THE SITUATION:

At 2.00p.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Erika was located near latitude 16.3 North, longitude 58.2 West, and approximately 245 miles east southeast of Antigua. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles and primarily to the east of the centre. The system is moving toward the west near 17 mph and a westward to west-north westward motion is expected during the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds are reported as near 45mph with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Message: Danny was upgraded to a Category 2 Hurricane at 11.00a.m. this morning (August 21st 2015). CDEMA continues to urge countries in the Northern Leeward Islands to continue monitoring and to enhance their readiness status.

THE SITUATION:

At 11.00 a.m. the center of Hurricane Danny, a Category 2 Hurricane, was located near latitude 14.0 North and longitude 48.2 West or about 930 miles East of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 105 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane Force winds extend outward from the centre up to 15 miles and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. The system is moving toward the west northwest near 10mph and this general motion is expected to continue through tonight. A turn toward the west is expected on Saturday or Saturday night.

Message: Severe flooding affects Coastal Regions of Guyana.

1. EVENT: The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) of Guyana has reported that heavy rainfall along Guyana’s coastal regions during the period of Wednesday July 15th and Thursday July 16th, 2015 has resulted in increase water levels in rivers and canals. Region #4 is experiencing flooding in most communities in central Georgetown, and some areas of the East Coast, and there are also some reports of flooding in Regions #2, #3, #5 and #6.
