MESSAGE: Irma is currently a category 4 hurricane now moving into the Bahamas. Irma made direct landfall over the Turks and Caicos on Thursday September 07, 2017 with heavy rainfall and recorded wind-speeds of 150 mph and greater. Jose remains a dangerous category 4 hurricane as it moves closer to the Northern Leeward Islands.

EVENT:

On Friday September 08, 2017 at 800 PM EDT (0000 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 22.2 North, longitude 77.2 West. Irma is moving towards the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a turn toward the northwest is expected by late Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near 155 mph (250 km/h) with higher gusts. Irma is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 miles (295 km).

SUMMARY

North Western Caribbean Sea:

Tropical Storm (TS) Harvey, the eighth named Storm for the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season has deteriorated into remnants; a large area of disturbed weather over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Tropical cyclone development is not expected before the system moves inland over the Yucatan peninsula. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for cyclone development when the system moves over the Bay of Campeche tonight, August 22, 2017 or early Wednesday August 23, 2017, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday or Thursday. Regardless of development, local heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to spread westward across Belize and the Yucatan peninsula.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) hereby informs that the National Meteorological Service have issued a flood warning for the Toledo District due to flooding as a result of heavy rainfall over the last 36 to 48 hours over southern Belize. Rainfall is expected to continue through the day and tonight. It is raining over the Maya Mountains, so communities prone to flash flooding in the Stann Creek District must be on the alert. The concerns remain as localized flooding of low-lying communities and flash floods near rivers and streams especially in the south. AREAS OF CONCERN in Stann Creek are the North Stann Creek and South Stann Rivers including Kendal.

MESSAGE: Powerful category 5 Hurricane Irma continues to impact CDEMA Participating States while Hurricane Jose poses threat to Northern Leeward Islands.

EVENT:

On Thursday September 07, 2017 at 800 PM EDT (0000 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 21.1 North, longitude 71.8 West. Irma is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days with some decrease in forward speed.

SUMMARY

Tropical Storm (TS) Harvey, the eighth named Storm for the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season formed near the Windward Islands on August 17, 2017. TS Harvey impacted Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Martinique and Dominica on Thursday night, August 17, 2017 into Friday morning, August 18, 2017. TS Harvey accelerated westward as it approached Barbados around 8:00 pm at a speed of 18 mph (30km/h) and brought maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65km/h) with higher gusts. TS Harvey poses a potential threat to Belize as it moves in a westward direction across the Caribbean Sea.

MESSAGE: Hurricane Irma a powerful Category 5 Hurricane impacted the CDEMA Participating States of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Montserrat over Tuesday night into Wednesday evening, September 06, 2017.

EVENT:

Irma, the 9th named hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, became a category 5 hurricane in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday September 5, 2017. On Wednesday September 06, 2017, at 8:00 PM AST (0000 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 19.1 North, longitude 66.1 West.

SUMMARY

Tropical Storm (TS) Don, the fourth named Storm for the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season formed near the Windward Islands on July 17, 2017. TS Don impacted Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and sections of Trinidad and Tobago during Tuesday night, July 18, 2017. TS Don accelerated westward as it approached Grenada around 8:00pm at a speed of 23 mph (37km/h) and brought maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65km/h) with higher gusts.

THE SITUATION

According to the National Hurricane Center, Miami Florida, as at 11:00pm (AST) Tuesday July 18, 2017, TS Don degenerated to an open wave over the far southeastern Caribbean Sea.

MESSAGE

Tropical Storm Bret degenerates into a Tropical Wave while assessments are ongoing in Trinidad and Tobago.

THE SITUATION

According to the National Hurricane Center, Miami Florida, as at 5:00pm (AST) Tuesday June 20, 2017, the remnants of Bret were located near latitude 12.0 North, longitude 67.3 West. The remnants are rapidly moving toward the west-northwest near 22 mph (35 km/h), and this motion will continue during the next day or so.
