Nassau, Bahamas, December 4th, 2017 (NEMA) – The 10th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management opened just days after the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season ended, with stark reminders of how vulnerable the region is to catastrophic disasters.
The Hurricane Season ended on November 30, with countries in the region still recovering from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which tore at the very fabric of economies, communities and the environment.
Nassau, Bahamas, December 4th, 2017 (NDRM) – Representatives of the Natural Disaster Risk Management Programme for the Caribbean Region (NDRM) are participating today in the 10th edition of the Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM), held at the Melia Nassau hotel of Bahamas from December 4th – 9th, 2017. This conference, under the theme “The Road to Resilience – Check Point 2017: Building Resilience through Partnerships”, will gather the most relevant decision makers and professionals of disaster management, contributing to improve capacities and partnerships to fight climate change and strengthen disaster management strategies.
As a region that has its share of disasters, we share the pain of the people in the Caribbean, when the category-5 Hurricane Irma went through the Caribbean, and made its first landfall in the north-east Caribbean islands on Wednesday, 6th September 2017.
