Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands (October 13th 2011) -The Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies  will host a number of f activities to celebrate the 2011  International Day For Disaster Reduction.

National Art Competition-Hurricane Impact through the eyes of a child
Primary School Ages 4-8 years old
First, second and third prizes will be awarded to schools.
Exhibition opens to the public at 12:30-2:00 pm
Exhibition venue: Office of the Department of Disaster Management & Emergencies (DDME)

Youth Parliament Debate at the TCI Community College Auditorium, Grand Turk @ 10:30am
IDDR Debate Moot
Whereas natural hazards are escalating globally,
And whereas all sectors of society are seriously affected by these natural hazards,
And whereas preservation of the natural environment and of the next generation is of paramount importance to all governments worldwide:
Be it resolved that effective disaster risk reduction can only be truly achieved if children and young people are an integral part of the process.

National Disaster Jeopardy Quiz Competition at the Felix Morley Community Centre, Five Cays, Providenciales @ 9:30 am
Open to all high schools
First, second and third prizes will be awarded to schools
The public is invited to join DDME as we celebrate International Disaster for Disaster Reduction.
