The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission has received funding from the World Bank toward the cost of the Unleashing the Blue Economy of the Caribbean (UBEC) Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds for Consulting Services to Update the OECS Common Tourism Policy to Increase Competitiveness Based on a Blue Economy Approach.

Overview:
According to the National Hurricane Centre in Miami, Florida, as of 11:00 AM (AST) on Thursday August 24, 2023, the center of Tropical Storm Franklin was located at 22.2 N 69.9 W with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph moving north-east at 7 mph. TS Franklin was located approximately 90 miles or 145 KM east north-east of Grand Turk Island. The Tropical Storm Warnings for Haiti and Turks and Caicos Islands have been discontinued and the All Clear has been issued. The impact to the states was minimal and no significant damage was reported. TS Franklin is forecast to produce 1 to 3 inches of rainfall across Hispaniola and the eastern Turks and Caicos Islands throughout Thursday, August 24, 2023.

On June 19 2023 Tropical Depression Three formed over the Atlantic and strengthened to form Tropical Storm Bret, the second named storm of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season Bret gradually intensified as it moved across the Atlantic Ocean westward towards the Lesser Antilles By June 20 2023 a “Tropical Storm Watch” was in effect for Barbados, Dominica, St Vincent The Grenadines, and Saint Lucia By 11 00 PM on June 21 2023 the “Tropical Storm Watch” was elevated to a “Tropical Storm Warning” Over the period June 22 23 2023 Bret moved across the Windward Islands with its center passing north of Barbados and over northern St Vincent and the Grenadines Damage from storm force gusts, heavy rains, floods and storm surge were reported across the impacted states As of 5 00 PM June 23 2023 Bret crossed the island arc into the Caribbean Sea where gradual weakening is anticipated over the next couple days Bret is forecast to dissipates over the Central Caribbean Sea by Saturday into Sunday, June 24 25 2023.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, February 27, 2023. Over 50 technocrats from 18 CCRIF Caribbean member countries and two regional organizations, met face-to-face in Miami over two days – February 16 and 17, 2023 – to deepen their knowledge and understanding of CCRIF’s parametric insurance models and products. CCRIF also took the opportunity to share with members the upgrades to its tropical cyclone, excess rainfall and earthquake models that are expected to underpin the Facility’s policies for the 2023/24 policy year which begins on June 1, 2023. The workshop also allowed for virtual participation and about an additional 16 persons from member countries and regional organizations participated online over the two days.
