Bridgetown, Barbados , October 1st, 2017 (CDEMA) - As the CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) prepares to exit the Virgin Islands (UK) some rehabilitative work was done on the Alexandrina Maduro Primary School in Baugher’s Bay. The remaining 14 member team, led by Lt Commander Graham Rocheford (Barbados Defence Force) re-painted the bathroom facilities for boys and girls and fixed the urinals and toilets that were damaged as a result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

SYNOPSIS OF HURRICANE MARIA
Maria, the 13th named hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, became a category 5 hurricane near the Leeward Islands on Monday September 18th, 2017. Hurricane Maria impacted Dominica at approximately 9:35pm on September 18th as an extremely strong hurricane with wind speeds of 155 mph. Maria then impacted Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and St. Kitts and Nevis on September 19th, 2017 and the Virgin Islands September 19 – 20, 2017.

The government of SVG recently signed a grant agreement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for readiness support to access climate financing from the GCF.
Accordingly, the government now wishes to procure consultancy services for strengthening the capacity of the Nationally Designated Authority (including developing an operation manual) and developing a country strategic framework for engagement with the GCF.
