Work Programming Workshop for Belize disaster management officials

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 5, 2009, (CDEMA) - The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), through the CDM Harmonized Implementation Programme (CDM HIP): Phase I, and in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) of Belize, will conduct a Country Work Programming Workshop from October 6-9, 2009 at NEMO’s headquarters in Belmopan. Participants at the workshop will comprise, officers responsible for disaster risk reduction planning and/or programming at the National Disaster Office, representatives from the Ministry responsible for disaster management as well as other ministries that support disaster management in Belize.

The workshop will facilitate the articulation of a multi-year Country Work Programme (CWP) and a Programme Monitoring Framework (PMF) for Belize within the concept of a national comprehensive disaster management programme..

This is the final workshop in the series held for CDEMA Participating States to provide hands on guidance in the development of national work programmes and evaluation mechanisms that support the regional comprehensive disaster management strategy.

Training of personnel who have direct responsibility for disaster management programme development and monitoring in the CDEMA PS is one of the initial activities under the CDM HIP (Phase 1). The five-year, US $11.7 million programme runs until March 2013 and is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with contributions from other donors, including CDEMA’s Participating States.

The programme is, being implemented by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in partnership with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The Belize workshop will be facilitated by a two man team from the CDEMA Coordinating Unit.
