CDEMA & St. Kitts and Nevis National Disaster Offices Harmonizing Work Programming

This follows Results Based Management (RBM) training held in St. Kitts and Nevis in November 2009 and supports the findings of both national disaster offices that programme harmonization is required for success.

Speaking at the opening of the 3 day workshop, Senior Programme Officer, Ms. Saudia Rahat, indicated that the mission would “focus on the development to of a harmonized CDM work programme for St. Kitts and Nevis for the next 3 to 5 years, using an RBM approach.” She emphasized the need for inclusion and participation of all national stakeholders in the process.

Upon completion a cadre of officers in The Federation will possess knowledge and skills to develop work programmes and performance monitoring frameworks, using the RBM concept. RBM is a management philosophy that includes tools geared toward improving both project and programme design, effectiveness, monitoring, reporting, and accountability.

At the end of the workshop:

  • A harmonized multi-year work programme for disaster risk management in St. Kitts and Nevis will be developed.
  • Avenues for utilization of US$ 10,000 for EOC upgrade and additional support via the Country Directed Fund (CDF) US $15,000 explored.
  • Future priority areas for support identified.

Ms. Rahat is accompanied by Ms. Gayle Drakes, Programme Officer attached to the CDM HIP (CDM Harmonized Implementation Programme) Phase 1– a five year programme being implemented by CDEMA and funded by CIDA the Canadian International Development Agency and UK Department for International Development (DIFD).
