CDEMA Staff members participate in Risk Analysis training

Bridgetown, Barbados, January 20th, 2016 (CDEMA) – Three members of Staff of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Coordinating Unit are participating in the Risk Analysis training, currently being held at the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) in Port of Spain, Trinidad from January 18th – 22nd, 2016.

The CDEMA representatives - Elizabeth Riley, Deputy Executive Director; Joanne Persad, Programme Manager Preparedness and Response and Donna Pierre, Disaster Risk Management Specialist join other representatives from regional agencies including the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Regional Security System (RSS).

The purpose of the one-week training course is to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the discipline of risk analysis and the risk management process. The training will also help them to identify and evaluate the assets they wish to protect, the vulnerabilities they must guard against, determine risk control strategies, and define the most suitable approaches to risk communication. At the end of the training, participants are expected to demonstrate the use of a handful of analytic tools that support risk analysis, define a strategy to control the risks they have identified and define a risk management capability for their organization.CDEMA CU Staff members at the Risk Analysis training held at IMPACS, Trinidad. The training in Risk Analysis will benefit the CDEMA team in further developing the Agency’s organizational risk management system and informing the process for undertaking risk analysis for specific hazards.

The training is being offered in collaboration with the Global Crisis Response Support Programme (GCRSP). The GCRSP is a two-year capacity development initiative of the European Union (EU) to support Latin American and Caribbean regional organizations and their Member States to enhance their conflict and disaster early-warning capabilities through tailored human capacity development measures. The programme aims to improve the interconnectivity between crisis response centres and early-warning/situation awareness facilities within the region as well as strengthen cooperation with the EU Crisis Room and other EU institutions in the field of crisis response and early warning.
